End of the Typhoon

30th Aug 2024

We've been under a tropical cyclone (typhoon) watch for the past week or so, but the weather predictions have been all over the place, and updated with completely new predictions every few hours. Originally, it was supposed to hit us Wednesday, 28 August, but after several revisions, it was scheduled to pass over us on 2 September.

This morning, the updated weather report has the typhoon petering out over Kyushu and passing near us as (at best) a tropical storm. My wife is remarkably disappointed. She's been in kind of an engineered panic since the storm was announced. She has insisted on buying "emergency food," even though I've pointed out that we should always have "emergency food" available. I also explained that the storm would pass over us quickly and we wouldn't be cut off from the world for more than a few hours, or maybe a day at worst. She has been unconvinced. We went shopping and bought a lot of snacks; not so much real food.
